Translation Grants

Ethiopia is a nation of many peoples and many languages. To foster an increased sense of unity strengthened by diversity, it is increasingly important that Ethiopians and people abroad have access to Ethiopian works in languages they can read. In doing so, all people may better understand each other, and flourish as a result. 

Therefore, the National Reading Campaign of Ethiopia, Enanbib, Enabib!, announces its Translation Grant, an initiative with the aim of providing funding to writers and publishers whose works are not widely accessible due to language barriers. While we acknowledge that literary arts suffer in some part in their translation, as no work can be perfectly represented as original in translation, access to translated works promotes awareness of these writers’ artistry and encourages others to seek out the texts in their original form to better know these works.
